Roland De La Torre had no website for his long-standing East Bay business, Thousand Oaks Painting Co. He also needed a logo, and wanted to borrow a design that reflected the deep roots he and his business had in the area. Thousand Oaks is named after the neighborhood where he grew up, in Albany, which in turn was named by the builders who developed it.
Roland showed me a book of historical postcards and other artwork from Berkeley’s early days, and there was a promotional brochure for Thousand Oaks Properties, showing a view of the San Francisco Bay before any bridge was built. I scanned the page and adapted the image for Thousand Oaks Painting Co.
I also suggested using the WordPress website’s blog for the company’s future projects. They could minimize the need for writing by posting photos of each project. To get them started, I took photos for their initial website, which are still featured.
