While working half-time as Web Manager for the UC Berkeley Psychology Department (1999–2005), I interviewed then-Chair Stephen Hinshaw and wrote this Berkeleyan article about his new and very personal book, The Years of Silence are Past, about his father’s bipolar condition.

As a volunteer for the “Jazz on the ‘Mo” benefit for the Buchanan YMCA in San Francisco, I pitched this story to The New Fillmore neighborhood paper, researched the history and wrote the story, and researched and obtained the archive photo.
For the Fall 2004 issue of Mills Quarterly, I interviewed alumna March Fong Eu, California’s Secretary of State for nearly 20 years and the first woman to hold that statewide elected position. I wrote the article and researched and procured rights to the photos used in the article.
Copyediting Adobe Press‘s Production Essentials, and writing the chapter on print reproduction, was an excellent apprenticeship in Photoshop, Acrobat, typefaces, and printing.
